Carbon Neutral — Since 2018
To offset our emissions, we’ve invested in a tree planting scheme in Surrey and Kent, courtesy of www.carbonfootprint.com. In brief, for every tonne of carbon that we release that we simply cannot avoid, Home Republic funds a tree planting project to reduce carbon emissions by the same amount.
Why We Do This?
It may surprise you to learn that as a privately owned company, Home Republic is NOT subject to regulating our emissions. However, this is beside the point. In fact, very much so.
Despite the sheer impossibility of eliminating our emissions altogether — we use a great deal of fuel and energy in our work — we have introduced several steps to help us manage and reduce them.
Therefore, we’re delighted to work with Carbon Footprint, not least because it’s helped us to strengthen our resolve to define clear reporting boundaries. That is, aspects and tasks that dovetail to the requirements of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development Green House Gas Protocol.
Home Republic’s Steps Towards Sustainability
- We rely solely on sustainable providers of recycling services.
- Re-cycle kitchen units and white goods through donations to charity shops.
- Regularly publish our site recycling reports on our Community boards’ on-site hoardings.
- Continuous review of goodwill legacy opportunities and innovations.
- Use of modern plant, machinery and tools with lower energy outputs. These also help reduce noise and dust.
- Careful monitoring of water, electricity and fuel usage.
- Segregation of waste on-site, with over 95% waste diversion from landfill. We re-use materials wherever possible.
- Full on-site environmental training provided, supplemented by environmental toolbox talks, and the use of an «eco» checklist.
